30 Day August Declutter Challenge
By
When it’s back to school time, I always get the urge to declutter and re-organize. This year, I’d love to have you join me and my friend Marcia, who thought the idea up.
The Challenge
Marcia and I will be posting at our blogs every day with what we have decluttered.
- The idea is to declutter at least one item a day for the entire month. If you can’t commit to an entire month, then commit to at least 7 days of decluttering.
- Then every Friday starting 8th August everyone who’s participated for the previous 7 days writes a post on their own blog with their pictures and links that post to the Mr Linky on my blog to get their entry in.
- I am donating a Simplicity ecourse every week and Marcia is giving away a Household Organising File and a Christmas Planner every week. So there are 3 chances to win something clutter-free to reward you for decluttering your home.
- You may only link up if you’ve done 7 days of decluttering and written a post with the 7 items. So the more you declutter, the more chances you have to win. It’s win-win-win (less clutter) whether you win a prize or not.
- And then, at the end of the month, I’ll put up another Mr Linky and one person will win one of my bestselling Organise your Home ecourses.
If you don’t have a blog, you can participate by posting on our Friday posts with your 7 day accomplishments.
Let’s see how much decluttering we can get done this August! Ready to join us?

WOOOHOOO – I can’t wait!
Beth, you can be the Decluttering Queen, a good partner to the Organising Queen! LOL
I think I need some sleep – good night
Sounds like fun! I love the idea of small steps toward big accomplishment. Count me in.
This sounds great. I was thinking about staying at home the month of August and doing some work around the house. This will make for a wonderful goal.
I’ll take the challenge, although we will be on vacation for one of the weeks. I’ll double up when I get home….I LOVE decluttering….
Count me in! I am going to focus on my children’s closets and dressers to get us all ready for the new school year.
Hey, I’m ready to declutter! Count me in.
I am excited to start! I will be doing magazines and photo files on the computer the first week as I will be on vacation-that decluttering you can do from the car! Creative, huh?

what consists of an item? do you mean to declutter one closet a day? or a drawer? or get rid of one item of junk per day?
I look forward to the challenge. It even sounds doable. This will be awesome!
Deb
Glad to see all of you joining us.
Kari, an item just means one thing – 1 shirt, 1 book, etc. But, you are welcome to declutter as much as you want to.
I’d like to do this — how do I sign up?!
I’m in. Great timing!
I’m in.. My sewing room and living room shelves are the first up to be purged/donated/decluttered. Great timing for me.
Count me in, too! Sounds like a fun challenge!
Oh..Count me in!
This will be a great way to continue my progress that got started during my major decluttering during my vacation last week. Books will be on the top of the list – one a day for 31 days? That might be doable. But I can certainly find 31 items of some kind or other to get rid of!
Great Idea. I will be taking up the challenge! Magazines, recipes and linen cupboard all spring to mind.
I’m ready for a new beginning!
August is the perfect month for this project. It would be so helpful to start hectic September with less stuff to organize.

I’m in, I’ve needed to do this anyways, glad I found it in time!
Despite being one day behind, I am SO in! I find I’m not necessarily a clutter-bug, but after reading Marcia’s article on “What is clutter” I know I need to do some decluttering. Twenty years in the same house is a recipe for having items that simply “exist” because they’ve always been here. Time to rid myself of things I don’t use, love, or that make me smile! Thanks for the challenge!

I’m a few days behind, but I am so in!! I’ll start tonight by throwing something out and then I’ll get on it tomorrow and really start decluttering! I know I can’t be included in the August 8th blog day, but I’ll be set for the next one! Thanks for the challenge! My husband will be so happy by the end of the month!! And so will I!

I’ll have to start this Friday so I’ll be a week behind, but I have PLENTY of stuff to declutter! Geez, if you are counting one book, one outgrown piece of clothing, one old toy as one item, I’ve got about TWO YEARS worth of decluttering for you! lol
Unless I can take a photo of all the things in the give-to-Goodwill bag I took out of my closet on Saturday and count those?
Elizabeth – Great job on your decluttering so far! This is just for new decluttering, but if they were decluttered this week they count for sure.

This is so cool. Love the motivation.
Friday 8/1: Packed 2 boxes of books to sell or give away.
Saturday 8/2: Cleaned out junk drawer
Sunday 8/3: Deep cleaned master bathroom
Monday 8/4: Packed 3 boxes and took them to storage
Tuesday 8/5: Cleared closet of clothes that don’t fit to give to DAV
Wednesday 8/6: Got rid of socks that don’t match & cleaned microwave
Thursday 8/7: Deep cleaned kids bathroom
And I’ve only just begun. That tells you what kind of shape my house is in. I’ve been working with Make Today Matter and this fits right in. I am grateful for all the support.
