Being Flexible
ByThursday was the kind of day when I got almost no “productive” work done. I woke up late because of an early morning headache and work about 1/2 hour before a long lunch with a friend.
Then I joined a boy I mentor fora Kid’s Hope field trip to the Critter Barn – a petting zoo of sorts, but better.
That gave me about 1/2 hour to get the kids fed and dressed for their winter band concert. I wrote a note before I left for the field trip for the kids to lay out their clothes and Jeff to pick up a pizza. Well, my 3rd shift husband woke up just as I got in and my son didn’t lay out his clothes. A quick dinner of cheese and crackers would tide us over.
On each outing the weather got more and more snowy. By the time we went to the concert, we couldn’t see the icy and snowy road and snow was blowing all over. My mother-in-law was pretty shook up from the drive so I invited her to spend the night so she wouldn’t have to drive the 40 miles home.
The concert was lovely and we made it to our place without a scratch. We settled in for some food, preparing the room for my mother-in-law and relaxing. No catching up on work that night!
I have come a long way. I remember a time when I would have gone beserk with a day like this. But, I’ve learned to go with the flow. At least some of the time.
