For the reviews and predictions project

=======================

I can feel my heartbeat go quicker thinking about the brand new planners, my clear 2007 SARK calendar, and a new chance to make my life even more simpler and more fulfilling.

I have a vision in my head of how I want next year to be.

Of course I had a vision last year too. It’s easy to think I didn’t move forward at all. I didn’t lose 10 pounds, keep my house organized from top to bottom, make tons of money, and stay perfectly balanced in al aspects of my life. After all, that is what the perfectionist in me would say is success.

But, the rational side of me says that not everything you accomplish is through goals. And as long as some improvement is made you are headed in the right direction. I want to feel happy and successful about what I did do. The only one stopping me from that is that voice in my head that tells me I am never enough.

So, I told that voice to be quiet.

This is the year I:

  • started to get regular massages and get my hair cut at a real salon.
  • got rid of three activities that no longer interested me and had more time to pursue ones that did
  • set boundaries on work time
  • went to two fantastic seminars
  • introduced my son to Shakespeare at the theatre
  • swam every week in the spring and summer
  • switched to soft contacts
  • invited more people out to lunch
  • landscaped my yard with my husband
  • doubled my newsletter list
  • got closer with my Mom
  • went to three family reunions
  • had trials with my kids but still have a great relationship where we talk to each other
  • got certified as a Family Manager Coach
  • took the kids out of the midwest for the first time
  • went cavern exploring even though I was trembling in spots from the height
  • limited my time at one of my volunteer activities and added more time to another I am passionate about
  • started playing the piano again
  • played many games, did tons of crafts and went on lovely hikes with the family
  • signed up for the grocery game to cut coupon clipping time
  • stayed caught up with email most of the time
  • am half way done creating my business manual
  • and really spent time in spiritual matters

Now I feel energized and optimistic about the year ahead. What small changes or things did you accomplish this year? Go ahead, tell that voice in your head to be quiet.

Family Manager Coaching

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I have been training hard at the Family Manager University and a few weeks ago I became certified as a Family Manager Coach. I am a charter coach, one of the very first group of coaches to graduate.

I am excited to be expanding my coaching. As a Family Manager Coach I get to do in-home assessments for people. And they receive a personalized Makeover Action Plan (MAP) to help with the rough spots.

You can see a PDF of a sample MAP here. The real MAP’s are more like 40 pages though.

If you are in the Western Michigan area and are interested, please email me at encouragingcoach at gmail.com for more information. And if you know anyone in the area, I would love for you to pass on my name.

And for those of you who live elsewhere, you can find your own Family Manager Coach here.

Annual Planning

Posted by: | Comments (1)

On my birthday, I always like to do my annual planning. It may seem early for some, but I seem more motivated to plan in the fall, then in the winter. One of my friends asked what I do for my annual planning:

It’s not planning all the events of the upcoming year. It has more to do with thinking how I want the next year to go. I pray. Decide where to put my focus. And what routines and things I need to have in place for it to work best. I go over the past year accomplishments, good moments, things I’ve learned, etc. And I take last year’s calendar to remind me of annual things that show up that I should plan planning days for, and put in a retreat day every 6 weeks or so where I have a few hours. And a catch up day for work once a month where I don’t make any appointments and can catch up on email, filing, etc.

To keep myself on track with my visions and business goals by doing shorter planning sessions quarterly on a retreat day. I used to plan monthly too, but I can never seem to get what I want done in 30 days. I plan too much. And I was thinking about in the Bible so many things are 40 days. So I am going to try 40 day planning sessions this year. Then short weekly and daily planning sessions.

You can see it in more details at my Simple Annual Planning Program

What do you need to simplify?

Posted by: | Comments (3)

I am upgrading my simplicity course right now.テつ I want to make sure it will help your needs.テつ

What is most complicated about your life right now?

What needs simplifying most?

What questions do you have about simplifying?

What would you most like to learn about in creating a saner, simpler life?

You don’t have to answer all the questions.

Urgency Addiction

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Some friends were talking about the problem of urgency addiction. Here was some ideas I told them about:

I’ve coached quite a few people with urgency (adrenaline)テつ addiction. You know you are addicted when you can’t slow down even when there is no reason to hurry. You are usually late or just barely make it on time. Being still makes you anxious.
Adrenaline feels good, but used as an energy source for long term and your body starts to break down. Often people feel inadequate and insufficient
テつ テつ テつ

Step 1. Get to know your triggers, like:
Overpromising
Running late
Doing “shoulds”
Procrastination
Speeding
Trying to prove yourself
Not asking for what you need
Tolerations and little annoyances that need fixing
Blowing things out of proportion/creating dramas
テつ テつ テつ

Step 2. Monitor your triggers
Write down your triggers. Journal your feelings surroundingテつ your triggers. Make checklists so you know when they are most prevelant.
テつ テつ テつ

Step 3: Be willing to stay with the uncomfortableness of being still and slowing down.
It will feel better with practice. Notice your feelings of “I’m not doing enough” and “How can I slow down, I have too much to do.” Notice how much of the urgency you actually create yourself. テつ
テつ テつ テつ

Step 4: Come up with solutions from some of the triggers:
Stop trying to fix other people’s problems
Arrive early
Underpromise
Eliminate some committments
Cut out caffeine
Use systems
Say no
Adding breathing space to your day
Be realistic about deadlines ( I found I had missed deadlines by about two days, so now I add two days to all my deadlines)
Consciously slow down – savor your food, don’t walk fast when you don’t need to, drive the speed limit
Taking care of the tolerations
Take some time today to look ahead at what you can prepare for
Leave time for clean up, putting projects away, filing and returning calls
Take half a day a week to go through loose ends, work out details, planning, setting goals
Block off a day per month to play catch up – getting to the bottom of your in box, filing, setting monthly goals, getting rid of tolerations and procrastinations
Put less on your to do list
テつ テつ テつ

Step 5: Find healthier sources of energy:
Exercising
Deep breathing
Taking work breaks
Healthy eating
Notice when you feel stressed and ask yourself what you need
Relax every day
Do things that are fun for you
Sleep

Do you have any ideas to share?

Create a Year of Joy Program

Posted by: | Comments (0)
Once again I am taking clients for a program to plan the coming year. This year’s is called “Create a Year of Joy” program: http://www.encouragingcoach.com/programs-create.htm

Last year I had so much fun helping clients discover what they really wanted in the coming year. This year, I made the program a little more structured and made some worksheets to help with the specific planning.

It’s going to be one a first come-first served basis, since I have limited openings. However I’m not going to be announcing it in the newsletter till the beginning of January. So my loyal Blogger reader get a head start :)
