New Habit Update

Posted by: | Comments (0)

OK it’s now Sept. 10. If you have joined us with creating a new habit this month how have you been going?

I started after memorial day because my back kneader is not very small to take camping.  But I have done my back massager or neck pressure point massager every evening since Tuesday. Fall is prime migraine season for me and I am hoping this will help.

If you haven’t signed up but want to create a new habit this season – it’s not too late.

Free New Habits eCourse

Posted by: | Comments (13)

I updated the New Habits course and thought it might be fun to get people together to play with a new habit this September.

First sign up here:

The ecourse will help you stay focused and accountable for your new habit.

When you decide on your habit, post here in the comments. And every week, I’ll post at the blog and we can check in on the habit we want to create.

My new habit for September is to use my back massager or neck release tool every evening as a migraine preventative measure.

Weekly Menu Planner

Posted by: | Comments (2)

I ran across a great idea for a meal planning folder that goes on the fridge here:

http://www.simpleproductivityblog.com/hacking-meals-the-planning-folder/

But, 1) I didn’t have the right folder and 2) I don’t like a lot of stuff on my fridge.

My current system was a small notebook, but then I couldn’t put the recipes in it and I ended up with a pile next to my notebook.

My daughter suggested a small 3- ring binder since she knew I probably had one of those.

I had her play with designing the cover while I mainly followed the directions in LJ’s blog post.

Menu Planner

I added an Exercise Plan to the front pocket.

Exercise Plan

My menu plan I kept inside instead of outside. No forms for me, I just use lined paper. I add notes like "make barley soup in the crockpot" right after breakfast. I can also use notes to remind myself to unthaw things.

Menu Plan

Then in each of the plastic sleeves I  put the recipe(s) for the days.    Some are from the recipe box, some ripped out of magazines.

If it’s in a cookbook, I just write down the cookbook and page on scrap paper and slip it into the sleeve.

Inside menu

LJ has pantry inventory and freezer inventory. I have the pages, but am not sure if/when I will implement that.

I do have a page for current produce because I want to make sure we are using it up before it spoils. It’s especially useful in summer when we go to the farmer’s market.

Produce list

The back cover has more pockets. One pocket has the menu plan papers. And the other pocket has some of Michael Pollan’s rules for eating.

Back cover

Now I have it with my binders on my desk, all set for the next meal. And Sunday night I used it to plan my meals for the week.

‘Accomplishing Your Goals’ Training

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I think one of the reasons we don’t make our goals is because we don’t have fun once we get there. And we don’t make them pleasurable on the journey.

We remember the last time we worked hard to accomplish something only to feel it wasn’t good enough or we moved straight to the next goal.

All those have to’s and should’s along the way are tiring just thinking about.

What would happen this year if you allowed yourself the pleasure of seeing your accomplishments AND the small steps along the way.

You declutter a shelf and then step back to admire how it looks. That feeling of joy can help propel you the next time you want to declutter something.

After a workout, bask in the glow of moving your body and exercising even when you didn’t want to. Then remember that moment the next time you want to exercise.

When you work on a part of your project, pause at the end to see all you accomplished already.

As a recovering perfectionist, I know it’s hard to let yourself enjoy just a part of the process or celebrate what’s not perfect. Think of this as training to help you accomplish more goals.

Pause

Posted by: | Comments (1)

This could be a delightful season for you. If you take moments to enjoy.

This is a season of lights, music, good food, and beautiful decorations.

Many are too busy setting these up to enjoy them. Instead of looking at the decorations after they put them up, it’s time to rush to the next activity.

Noticing and pausing doesn’t take much time. Just a moment. After completing something, how would it feel to savor it?

I love to turn out the lights, put on music and stare at the tree after we put it up. Or admire a delicately wrapped present.

Pausing to notice fills up your soul and you feel happier.

During your holiday preparations, see if you can take a moment to notice.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Do we use busy as an excuse? Or pretend we don’t make some of these choices? Or put ourselves in victim mode?

Danielle LaPorte of White Hot Truth has a great post on Busyness:

we know you’re busy. now shut up about it.

Would a Group Motivate You?

declutter club

I was talking with a relative who was asking what the Declutter Group was. I was explaining about the accountability and the plan that helps people get over the hurdle of not knowing how to start. This relative is completely organized and was a bit baffled why you’d need to check in with people. Someone who took the course mentioned that it is very motivating to know you have promised progress to someone. It makes you want to get it done so you can share with the group. If this sounds like it would motivate you click the link below to find out more.

Starts Oct 5
