Changing Routine

By Beth

I talked a lot about routines and systems, but truth is, I am moreĀ a non-routine type person.

If I didn’t care about making progress or having a saner life, I wouldn’t even do routines.

So some days, I just need to mix it up. This morning, I did my quiet time outside listening to the birds and watching my flowers. The sun was out, yet the air was still cool.

That quiet time was more refreshing than I’ve had in a long time.

How can you mix it up? Maybe drive the slower, more picturesque way. Or have your lunch at a park. Maybe have something totally new for breakfast. Take your laptop and do work at Barnes and Noble. Try a new outfit. Wear your hair differently. Invite someone to lunch you never have before.

What will you do?

Yes, yes, yes! I learned this lesson a long time ago and yet need to be reminded. My best approach is to take a hike to a place I go regularly, but take the hike in reverse. Of course, that’s a challenge when you are in a rut on the places you hike.

But it does refresh the soul and the muse inside you when you just remember to mix it up.
