Decluttering to Creativity
ByOne of the people that took part in the Declutter Group (and yes, I have decided to put one on again for Sept/Oct), mentioned she is now ready to begin sewing again.
She stopped sewing and doing many of her creative projects because every time she went into her craft room the clutter and mess sapped her energy.
Many times we creative people think that in order to create there needs to be mess. But, often the opposite is true. We can’t create until there is some order to our environment.

Things don’t need to be perfect (and needing that might hamper your creativity as well), but space to create, breathe and be inspired is important.
And just like a theme or some constraint is helpful to create something, so is having less stuff to sort through in order to create.
If you are feeling creatively stifled, now might be a good time to tackle an area in your craft or work space.

I can so relate to this. Sometimes the mess created by sewing one project and totally stifle the process of even thinking of another. I cant find what I need, where did x go? keep sliding on scraps of fabric, where is that pattern piece. However, organizing all the supplies is hard too. Who wants to iron all those scraps someone handed down to me? Where is that yard of fabric I need to work on this project? where did that yard of fabric go, I used on something else, when I needed it for this project. Sometimes its alot easier to just not go in there.
Hi Susan, you creative spirit. Do you think you will ever use the scraps you need to iron before using? If not, that is a great place to let go. Especially if you have a room full of scraps and fabric.
A masking tape might be a quick way to label fabric you intend for a project so it doesn’t get used – depending on the fabric.
You are so creative with your projects, I’ll bet you can find a creative way to organize your stuff.
Well hello there! I came across your blog by searching ‘how do crafty people declutter?’ I often find myself saying (just as I’m about to put something in our pass-it-along-bag) “I know I can use this to make something.”
Your space looks so wonderfully organized. Thank you so much for sharing it. I am feeling motivated to do something about my crazy out-of-control sewing space.
