How to Organize a Purse
ByBarbara asked, "How do I continue to keep my purse organized as I am a mom with children who often need an extra bandaid etc. How can I keep it organized and a reasonable amount of things I may need for the children when out and about?"
My purse had started to get heavy since I like to be prepared for things. But, I realized I don’t need to carry everything with me at all times. Most of the time the car is only a small distance away.
I took many things from my purse and put them in the car. I have the first aid kit with medicine, bandages, etc. I only keep 2 bandaids in the emergency pocket of my purse. And a small box with tape, scissors, extra pens and other desk supply things I might need at a volunteer job, Sunday school project or at a client’s place stays in the car. And I have extra contact solution and a case in the glove compartment.
I like purses with different pockets, but if you don’t have one you can create pockets with small zipped bags.
(Some people like pursekets for organizing their purses.)

Suggested Bags or Pockets
- Cell phone
- Makeup – with just a few things like lipstick you can use as blush, powder and concealer
- Wallet – for 1 or 2 credit cards (keep the rest at home), receipts, money (mine has a skinny calculator in it and a mirror as well)
- Emergency – a couple bandaids, mini flashlight, mini card with nail file, mini scissors, etc., mints
- Small book, folded article (for you), or activity book (for the kids) for waiting time
- Writing – a couple pens, 4 crayons if you have small kids and a small pad of paper
And I have a case or pocket for my sunglasses.
If you can think of something else you think you need, try a mini-version that will take up less room in your purse.
Every day or every other day empty out the receipts and garbage from your purse. That will keep things streamlined because I know how fast things can end up in a purse.

Great idea! I have a lot of little things that I keep in my purse even though I may not use them for weeks or months. I never thought about keeping them in my car. That’s a perfect solution for those once in a blue moon type items that are cluttering up my purse. I just have to be careful about things that might freeze in our climate, like my sinus sprays and eye drops.
I broke down and bought a Butler Bag a year ago and I absolutely love it. It has the most wonderful organizer sewn into the bottom of the purse…like a tray with different sized compartments…. along with great side pockets, inside and out. Sightly pricey but worth every penny! I also have several sizes of the pursekets that I can slide into any purse. Also very handy!
i love your suggestions of organizing the purse.
