Spending Fast – Day 7

By

Tank was at 1/4 full so I needed to get gas today. Not the best day to do that. I had .15 cents off a gallon from my grocery store and it was still $40 to fill the tank!

I kept my car off when I waited for my daughter to get home from the Tulip Time Parade. She plays the trumpet in the marching band and was exhausted when she got into the car.

We went to the gas station by the grocery store and I got my daughter a green tea. We had some fruit to pick up as well. I was so tempted at the checkout because I saw they had new magazines out. Instinctively I started to put the pretty pink one in the cart, then I remembered. "Wait, I can’t buy that, I’m on a spending fast!"

Temptation resisted.

WOW! You’re a strong woman Beth! I don’t buy magazines but those chocolate bars get me all the time. And since it’s spring, they have lovely red tags for discounts on all my favorite ice creams and that doesn’t help either!

    Congratulations to you!

The temptation is amazing, isn’t it? I never realized what a factor it was in my spending until I started this fast. I am learning alot about my spending habits this month.

I drove to the train station today – wanted to have the car there so I could do my grocery run on the way home. I pretty much only bought what was on my list. In fact, I forgot 2 things. They recently remodelled the supermarket in town and I’m still having trouble finding things! So, tomorrow I’ll need to stop again and will have to keep focussed!

I also went to the supermarket in the city where they have a few things that I can’t get here in our little town. I happened to pass by the sale rack in the ladies’ department and saw a jacket that I’ve had my eye on with a second markdown. But I’m going to wait on that one. When it gets down to 50% off, then maybe I’ll buy it :)

I walked to and from home group meeting for a total of 75 minutes of walking. A good way to get my exercise in for the day and save gas too. Still working on walking on those shorter trips as well.

I also “splurged” on a diet cola.

WTG on resisting temptation, Beth! I started a magazine fast a number of months ago, and it pretty much broke me of the habit. I used to buy them at the train station to have something to read on the way home. Thing is, I have TONS of things I can read on the train! I now only buy them occasionally – I think maybe 4 magazines in the past 4 months, and two of those were while I was in the US.

Niki, some great tips in your list of new habits – thanks for sharing them!
