Setting Yourself Up for Success
Posted by: | CommentsWhat are your goals this year?
One of the most effective ways of reaching any goal, is to create an environment for success.
Make it easy for yourself by having your home, office or car remind you of what you want to achieve.
If you want to lose weight, declutter your cabinets of junk food so it’s harder to grab a quick sugar rush. Declutter the kitchen table so there is only a beautiful fruit bowl.
If you want to focus and be more productive, clear off your desk of distractions and create a habit of clearing your desk daily.

What if you are trying to exercise more? Lay out your workout clothes the night before. Create a nice space to workout it. Have your workout DVD in the player all set up.
And I love reminders – on your phone, attached to the bulletin board, on the outside of your computer screen, in your wallet, on your fridge. Reminders of your goals, things you want to remember, photos of what you want.
How can you make your environment pull you forward?

‘Accomplishing Your Goals’ Training
Posted by: | CommentsI think one of the reasons we don’t make our goals is because we don’t have fun once we get there. And we don’t make them pleasurable on the journey.
We remember the last time we worked hard to accomplish something only to feel it wasn’t good enough or we moved straight to the next goal.
All those have to’s and should’s along the way are tiring just thinking about.
What would happen this year if you allowed yourself the pleasure of seeing your accomplishments AND the small steps along the way.
You declutter a shelf and then step back to admire how it looks. That feeling of joy can help propel you the next time you want to declutter something.
After a workout, bask in the glow of moving your body and exercising even when you didn’t want to. Then remember that moment the next time you want to exercise.
When you work on a part of your project, pause at the end to see all you accomplished already.
As a recovering perfectionist, I know it’s hard to let yourself enjoy just a part of the process or celebrate what’s not perfect. Think of this as training to help you accomplish more goals.

Resolutions are Bonuses
Posted by: | CommentsAs we think about what we want for this coming year, let’s also remember that most of what we want are bonuses to an already good life.
For many of us we already have families, homes, work, the sights of nature, the movement of our bodies, the sounds of music, the taste of chocolate.
We don’t need to do more, get better, or improve anything to be happy. We can be thankful and content right now.

(Our cat Thomas sure knows how to be content)
The End of the Year Regret Time
Posted by: | CommentsI have to watch out for the New Year. I always want to make elaborate plans for everything I am going to do on top of my regular life.
But, it seems those New Year’s plans don’t always happen. The funny thing is I look over my goals lists from a few years ago and those goals happened. They just took longer than a year. I think many goals that are important do take more than a year.
If we keep making progress towards our dreams and goals, we will eventually hit them. Just like the little engine that could.

A year is not some mystical number that all goals must be reached by. The year mark is just a train stop on your life journey.
We have full lives. Most of us can’t work on our goals 24-7.
So what goals have you made progress on last year? What do you think your life would look like if you continued working on them this year?
Your other choices are beating yourself up about not completing the goal yet, giving up, or making a myriad of excuses why it’s not possible. Yuck!
