Weekly Simplicity Tips

By

Welcome to this week’s issue of Weekly Simplicity Tips. The declutter group has really been releasing a lot of clutter! They are inspiring me.

I had a radio interview for a channel in Vancouver, Saturday. I’ll get you the audio if/when they put it up.

Yesterday my daughter and I had a connecting day – seeing an illusionist, going out to eat and browsing Barnes and Noble.

A reader Debbie is having a problem decluttering due to a fear of bugs in her southern state. Have anyone here overcome this? If so you can email me or post on the blog comments below.

Warmly, Beth

  1. Take time to put the pictures up on the wall that you were planning to do someday.
  2. If your music has been converted to mp3s either get rid of the CDs or store them.
  3. When was the last time you updated your money tracking program?
  4. Have your kids or a local teenager type in some of your notes so you can throw out the paper.
  5. Think of household tasks as cherishing your home and family, instead of as drudgery.
  6. Change your cleaners to natural products.
  7. Open your windows once a day instead of using air fresheners.

Change Your Relationship to Time Class

Attention: Hurried, overwhelmed individuals with too much too do and not enough time to do it

Ask yourself: do you want to live your life in a constant state of hurry and worry?

When it comes to time, have you tried system after system but nothing works?

Or do you keep all your to dos in your head hoping you don’t forget anything?

Or worse, have a time system that takes so much time to manage you wonder if it’s even worth it?

We all want to feel in control of our time, but how do you do it?

My goal is to help you change your relationship with time.

Get it Done Day

Do you have those things that just never seem to get done? Things you procrastinate on like organizing a closet, making a difficult phone call or a business report? Get It Done Day is for tackling that to do list.

When: Get It Done Day starts on Friday March 2nd at 9am EST till 2:00pm EST. For U.S. current time zones, go to Time.gov You don’t need to be here the full 5 hours.

At the top of each hour we will say what we hope to do. At a quarter after we zoom to get it done. Then at the top of the next hour we say what we have accomplished and get some pats on the back.

Is your friend talking about bugs inside the house or outside? I live in a very “buggy” state.

For Debbie, who can’t seem to declutter for fear of bugs…
One thing really helps keep bugs at bay… Get rid of cardboard boxes!!! Use plastic bins!
It’s not cheap, but bugs really love the damp cardboard(humidity contributes), or just @any ” cardboard… Especially corrugated cardboard. Lots of hiding places. :(

Also, when sorting through things, keep a bottle of Windex or vinegar water handy to spray the little monsters that surprise you. Stuns some bugs, kills other’s… But it gives you a chance to scoop it up in a paper towel and get it out of the house! :)

    Inside bugs.

I handle the fear of creepy crawlies by having a variety of gloves handy, depending on what I’m going through and what I might expect to find. Cloth gardening gloves are good for most things, but when I need more protection I really like the fit and feel of goatskin gloves. To me it’s worth the trouble to find them in a size that fits. I’m currently looking for a new pair since I made the mistake of loaning them out. If it’s spiders (the worst!) get some plastic sleeve protectors at a hardware or office supply store.

  5. Sandi P says:

An incentive to declutter is that with fewer places to hide there will be fewer bugs.

  6. Teri says:

Gloves… the close fitting kind and a vacuum with the hose attachment on. The gloves keep them from touching me and the vac takes care of them when I see them.

This tip came emailed to me:

bugs??? eek…. Please let your gals know that any home canned products over two years old…….get rid of!!! this includes jams, jellies, and any type of preserve as they tend to break down….

some of mine were more like water and some smelled like vinegar….nice cleaned shelf…no bugs as I made sure I had spray and rags available “just in case”…

the trick is to do it NOW…BEFORE THE HOT WEATHER gets here. JUST DO IT!!!
