Before and After Desk

03.04.2010

I came into my office this morning to work at 8:42 and this is what I found:

desk

Yikes. Apparently I had been just throwing stuff on my desk and not cleaning it up every evening. Some weeks are like that.

But, I really didn’t want to work with that mess. In order to clean up I:

  • hung up my headphones
  • put yesterday’s water cup into the kitchen
  • put my notebooks away
  • put my calendar and to do list on their stand
  • put away my card making supplies
  • hung up my scarf
  • shredded my receipts
  • put coupons away
  • put my books on the bookshelf
  • brought my apricots to the kitchen
  • put several lipsticks back into the bathroom
  • put my ipod in its stand
  • and while I don’t have time to go through all my papers right now, I got them all back into the inbox

At 8:57, 15 minutes later I could work here again. It may not be perfect and I still have my wired keyboard while my wireless one is going back to the company. But, I can focus.

So now it looks like this:

desk after

What can you do in 15 min?

  • What a great “makeover” LOL

I’m inspired to tackle the desk behind me………:)

  • P.S. I divided my desk behind me into 7 sections, each that would take less than 10 minutes so I just do a bit every night.

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how little time something like that can really take. You would look at that and think ‘oh that’ll take me hours’ and get put off. But it shows that it is worth working on. I’ve just tidied up a quote request that I’ve been worrying over. OK, so it’s not finished yet, but I know where I am with it now and it took me only half an hour.

Oh I am so inspired to “clean up”. Actually I am going to be moving at the end of the month so I really really need to organize myself and my time. But like someone mentioned – cutting the process into small increments really helps.
I’m also an artist so I have to careful to plan the move so that my paintings are dry and ready to transport when the time comes and yet not stop painting because art is my business.
    cheers,
    Judy

  • Awesome. Now I’m inspired to do the same with mine. Thanks!

I just tackled my son’s room (approx an hour of steady work). It looked like your desk area, only a whole room of it. It IS amazing what you can accomplish in little time, it’s just starting…. My son hates it when I clean his room, once every 3 or 4 months! :o)

I came in and checked my email and saw your before and after. Now I need to work on my desk. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey, why do you use 2 monitors?? Tina

What a difference! I need to do that right now 🙂

Thanks everyone for letting me be authentic with you and no judgment. I certainly don’t want to give the impression I do everything perfectly. I hope you loved the results of your own area makeovers.
