Last night was our town’s snowy Christmas parade. I love watching my grandson’s delight as it enhances mine.
I wore glitter eyes shadow and red lipstick. He had on a light up headband and necklace, plus jingly bracelets.
We walked downtown and settled in our spot across from the town Christmas Tree. He oood as the tree was lit up to tuba music.
He threw snowballs into the brick street with two other kids next to him as they waited for the parade to start. All of them laughing.
He drank 3 cups of hot cocoa from the thermos in my winter coat.
His eyes glowed watching the Christmas horses trotting by and at every truck, float, tractor or animal decked out in lights. He jumped up and down and waved when he saw our church’s float until some of people he knew came over to say hi.
He danced to all the songs from the school bands or floats, jingle bells making music from his wrists.
And of course, there was a big smile as he waved to Santa at the end.
He walked home through the piles of snow on the side of the sidewalk because the snow was higher. And he giggled as he put his light stick, that they handed out at the parade, into the snow multiple times.
What is delighting you lately? Tis the season of delight, or it can be.
