The first step in sorting mail is getting an inbox – it can be a file inbox, a basket in the kitchen, a vase in the dining room. Somewhere that all incoming papers go before being sorted.
Next set up something like an Action file for papers you need to do something with. I have a video on how to set up an action file here.
Finally, weekly or daily, I do it weekly, sort your papers. Put it on your calendar for a certain day or in your daily routine so you don’t forget and end up with papers falling out of the inbox. You can watch my living room sort method here.
If you are already behind on paper, go through the current papers first before you start on the backlog. Otherwise current papers become the backlog and it’s hard to get caught up.
Action Step: Put your next paper sort on your calendar.
