Halloween
Halloween is one of those days that really highlights the differences in people. Some people acted like Halloween was an intrusion. They opened the door annoyed, football blaring in the background. They have too much to do for frivilous antics.
While others surrendered to and even welcomed the intrusion. Many asked themselves, since this is coming into my life how can I make it fun? These are the ones dressed up, or decorating their home, or asking about the costumes or giving great big smiles.
How about you? When you know something is coming up like a holiday, festival or other life interuption, will you dutifully participate or will you embrace the fun?
Even though we feel people have gone overboard…and we really don’t like all the homes that turned their lawns into fake graveyards, we have surrendered. We actually set up a little get together in our double wide driveway with a few neighbors and our pets dressed in little costumes and socialized with all the people strolling the streets. We offered candy, fruit and coins so there was something for people with any kid of allergy or whatever. In principle, a holiday that derives it’s heritage from people being afraid of evil spirits is a turn off to me. BUT, in a society gone mad with fear, it’s nice to have at least one day a year where people walk the streets as families and talk to strangers. It was kinda like a little block party on our street. We even had a home down the street that had a pop music band out playing. Too bad it couldn’t be like that more often! : )
I love this Ariane! It’s so hard to connect when so much of society makes it more difficult. Glad you were able to connect there!
