Spending Fast – Day 23/24

While my daughter was in Mackinac, my husband and I took my son to see IronMan. We thought we were going to use our gift cards we got for Christmas, but it turns out this theater didn’t accept them. So we spent more than anticipated. But, no popcorn. And it was a really great movie to watch with my guys.

On the way home my car needed gas again. Only the second time this month, I think. We’ve been walking as much as possible. Gas was $4.18 a gallon. Groan.

Today my daughter went with my husband to his parents. They rode the motorcycle so that’s cheaper on gas. I asked my son where he wanted to go walking since it was a lovely, sunny day. He couldn’t decide, so while he was thinking we got my dirty car cleaned. That was the first time this month. It really needed it! We went to the place that let’s us wash the car and has the foaming brush. So it cost about $3.50 to wash and wax the car.

Jon decided on the beach, so off we went. I had to pay $24 to get in because we always get the year long pass the first time they charge in the spring. The pass is good for most of the beaches in the area and throughout Michigan and we consider it a great bargain. We spent a fun afternoon playing in the sand and walking the pier. Sailboats dotted Lake Michigan and we were able to see them coming into the docks. Kites were flying, some guys with guitars were strumming, balls were tossed, and Jon was trying to sneak up on seagulls with the kid nearby.

My son stayed home from his grandparents because he has a party to go to tonight. I will drop him off and have a quiet evening reading and relaxing.

Sounds like a lovely day at the beach – AND it didn’t cost very much. I don’t know why people always think they have to spend lots to have fun and enjoy life.

I’ve been debating getting the year pass this year. Not sure I want to drive with gas prices. I have been bummed about our $4.10 prices, sucks that your part of MI is even more! This is going to kill us, money wise. Glad you had a great day!

I’m only 10 to 15 minutes from about 3 of the beaches along Lake Michigan. Less than 30 minutes from some others, so not much traveling for us 🙂

  • Leanne NZ says:

Am I right to read in USA if you wish to go to a beach you pay?

Here in NZ anyone can walk on any beach so I kinda found paying an eye opener.

    Love Leanne NZ

  • Beth says:

    Hi Leanne,

Some of the beaches are free, especially around the smaller lakes. But most of the nice beaches at Lake Michigan you have to pay.
