What’s not working

07.07.2005

Too often we think change will be too difficult, so we go on doing the same things, thinking the same way, hanging out with the same people. We don’t admit to ourselves when something is not working.

What are you willing to admit is not working in your life? Where will you go for support to change? What will your first step be?

I often struggle the most with, “Is it my problem or the other person’s?” Well, I guess that can be interpretted so many different ways. It’s mine because I have an issue with it. It’s mine if I don’t confront it. However, then what? Do I look for a way to better accept certain things, or do I stand up for the way I wish to be treated? Lots of gray areas and perspectives to consider. I’m always re-evaluating.

Thank you for the thought-provoking questions.

    Hi Mona,

These are thought provoking as well. Usually I go for explaining the way you would like things to be different, in a respectful way. Then they have the choice on whether they comply. If they don’t then it becomes up to you to decide to practice acceptance, or have consequences. A silly one – say your hubby always drops his clothes on the floor. Say, “When you leave your clothes on the floor, I feel like your mother or your maid. Please pick them up.” If he does, great. If not, you can decide you love him anyway and keep picking up the clothes, saying it’s no big deal. Or you can decide to wash only the things that end up in the hamper. When he says he has no clothes, calmly explain that’s because he didn’t put them in the hamper. Wishing you the best as you re-evaulate.
